Back from LA

After a long weekend in LA, visiting with family and friends, we are happy to be back home to the heat and humidity of Brooklyn. Our couch was finally delivered this morning and it fits perfectly in the apartment, what a relief!!! We were worried it wouldn't get through the front door. Now we have a sleeper sofa, we are ready for summer house guests. Thanks mum and dad for your generous gift!

Contemplating bed options

We need to buy a bed. I've discovered that sleeping on a mattress on the floor gives you numb limbs in the middle of the night, which is seriously disturbing. We want a modern storage bed, but I really hate the idea of bringing any more particle board furniture into our lives. We also want something affordable. I found this one on the web, which is solid wood so it might be alright.
We really want to go for this minimalistic look, based on the bed at the Park Hyatt in Korea (my favorite hotel in the world)
I think it might work...minimalism is hard to do when you live in a tiny place with no closets!

Home for bikes

Jacob spent the weekend building this awesome bike rack for our bikes. He had to build a special bar because we couldn't drill into the tin roof. He came up with a really elegant and useful method of storing our bikes... we just need to start riding them now that the sun is shining again.

While Jacob was doing this manly work, I was busy breaking in our grill with our first burgers at home. Seriously yum.

Sunday fun- Gallery Wall

Sunday we spent putting up our art. We have some great art that we love, including photos by Amy Elkins, Camilla Schofield, Thomas Bangsted, my great-great Aunt Ethel Francis, Rebecca Campbell, Jen Behr, Hazel Mandujano and of course Jacob and I. I had fun playing with proportion and scale when putting the art up. (The 'bricks' around the antlers are actually paintings by Rebecca. She also did the portrait of Billie, our dog)

Wild saturday night in NYC

We had fun today putting up shelves. We found this bracket system at Lowes for pretty cheap. Both sets of shelves cost a total of $250 (with Jacob's veteran's discount) and are solid wood.
